What Happened to Working For the Weekend

Oy it's Sunday. I worked yesterday (a Saturday). I will work today (Sunday). And I feel sorry for myself. JUST KIDDING!!! I have a ton of work and that's a great thing. Getting it out on time is important, to maintain the reputation of a good worker.

Although I will be an IP lawyer, I perform a number of other legal services (HA, that sounds so prostitutional). Getting through some of these is difficult because of their first time nature. I have many first times. It would be nice to have a second and third so I feel like I know something. At a first-year training, I asked a partner about when we start "knowing" something. I get to look forward to 3 years of discombobulation.

One day I hope to have a hobby.

I didn't have hobbies until I passed the bar and was clerking. A lack of studying + a 40-45 hour work week felt like I had a TON of time on my hands! haha Now that I've started in private practice I have a feeling those 40 hour work weeks will be gone, along with my hobbies.

As for the learning curve, I'm sure you will catch on soon :).

Can't blogging be your hobby? ;-)

@Brittany - yeah, I haven't felt like getting into a hobby. A dry martini, but not a hobby. Unless you count sitting on the couch watching tv to try to relax enough to sleep a hobby.

@ Michael - good point. Blogging could definitely be a hobby :)

This is really random, but I'm a 1L and I stumbled upon your blog while googling "bad grades first year of law school."

Your posts sound like my daily thoughts...particularly one from 2008 that said something about wishing the school would have rejected me so I didn't have to suffer 3 long years of rejection...

I see you stuck it out and are working now?

So there's hope for me yet?

@ Anonymous - wow, is there hope. I have no idea. I stuck it out because I am stubborn and got pissed. I know I am smart. And it's funny, but the firm that hired me is a little freaked out that I can do math, know lots of different programs, talk about modeling and can research questions quickly (given my grades). So grades, to a large degree are crap.

But hope for what? Making it through? Yeah, you can make it through. Hope for a job? Maybe, that's a much harder to figure out. Hope for a "happily ever after"? Not a chance in hell. I am happy because I am made that way, but I have an over-sized mortgage as a student loan and 3 years of schooling that didn't even prepare me, really, to do the day to day work of an attorney (not to mention administrators who don't give a damn about their students and the abuse of just being in that situation for 3 years).

Good luck, Anony. And if you ever want to contact me, just use the email address on the web page. I like email.

well the weekend has become just as busy. Between doing all the parents expect of me, and the things I need to accomplish on doing busy applying at Robert Half Legal and getting ready to move, I still have very little time to myself. So I apologize for the lack of posts and hopefully things will settle down soon!

Only politicians can put them on right or wrong track, neither administrators nor courts.
